President’s Postdoctoral Scholars Program (PPSP) Award

The Ohio State University College of Public Health is proud to announce that Shane Scaggs has been selected as a recipient of the highly competitive **President’s Postdoctoral Scholars Program (PPSP) award** for the 2025-2026 cycle. This prestigious recognition is a significant achievement for the **Biostatistics program** and the **HEALMOD Initiative**, reflecting OSU’s commitment to fostering groundbreaking interdisciplinary research. 
   
   The PPSP award, which saw over 65 nominations this year, acknowledges exceptional postdoctoral scholars who demonstrate excellence in research, pedagogy, and collaboration. Shane Scaggs, a recent doctoral graduate in anthropology, brings a strong background in computational methodologies and interdisciplinary scholarship. His work aligns closely with the goals of HEALMOD, an initiative housed in the College of Public Health that bridges the social sciences with **quantitative public health research**. 
   
   "Shane's selection is a testament to his outstanding contributions to research and his ability to integrate diverse methodologies to address complex scientific questions,” said **Dr. Grzegorz Rempala**, who will serve as Shane’s mentor. “This award further solidifies our Biostatistics program as a leader in interdisciplinary and data-driven public health research." 
   
   Shane's academic journey is marked by numerous accomplishments, including receiving the 
   **NSF Graduate Research Fellowship**, securing multiple competitive grants, and attending the **Complex Systems Summer School at the Santa Fe Institute**. His research has been widely recognized, with publications in top-tier journals such as *Nature Communications Earth and Environment*, *PNAS*, and *Current Anthropology*. 
   
   The College of Public Health extends its congratulations to Shane Scaggs and all those who supported the PPSP application process. His selection represents a milestone in OSU’s ongoing efforts to advance quantitative public health research and interdisciplinary collaboration.
