Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

I am an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University. My research aims to make AI technologies that can better understand and optimize human and natural systems in science and engineering. I am especially interested in:

  1. Building better AI for systems with less observability and/or scarce data
  2. The promise and limits of reinforcement learning as a tool for linking prediction and decision-making,
  3. How AI technologies can help us generate new scientific knowledge.
