Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

My primary research interests are in the study of complex social and socio-biological systems, with a particular focus on human behavior in different contexts. Human behavior can be treated as the product of complex processes driven by ecological, social, psychological, and cultural forces. A deep understanding of human behavior is essential to addressing the numerous challenges our society faces (such as climate change; pandemics; growing inequality; social, economic, or political crises; political polarization; misinformation; and violent conflicts). In my research, I build mathematical models to understand key ecological, material, cognitive, social, and cultural factors affecting human behavior in various contexts. I test these models on real data and try to make predictions and recommendations for policymakers that can contribute to fostering sustainability, efficiency, diversity, and equity of our society. I also build evolutionary models to explain what kind of selective pressures shaped the evolution of the observed behavioral patterns.

Overall, I believe that my research can contribute to the HEALMOD's mission by uncovering the general principles underlying collective adaptation to a changing world and utilizing these principles to develop effective intervention strategies.
